Prep/Foundation enrolment

Starting school is an exciting time for children, parents and carers. We want to help make the enrolment process as easy as possible for you.  Each year, the department releases the Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents/Carers, with information packs available from the beginning of Term 2 for students commencing foundation/prep the following year. These information packs, and other important information, can be found on the Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) page of the Victorian Government website.

Our school zone

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.

Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

Foundation (Prep) enrolments

The Department of Education (DE) has a statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Newhaven Primary School.

You can find information and resources about the enrolment timeline and procedures at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

Parent Payments

Under the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Payments Policy, Victorian government schools are required to provide transparent information to their school community on voluntary parent/carer contributions.

The following document outlines the parent/carer contributions at our school:

Transition from Preschool to Prep, and Grade 6 to Year 7

Newhaven Primary School has well established transition programs in place for students entering and exiting our school.  Strong communication links with our feeder preschools, along with our very successful orientation program for preschool students, ensure a timely and happy transition from preschool to primary school.  Our Grade 6 students participate in a transition and orientation program with Wonthaggi Secondary College each year. This helps prepare students through both social and educational programs for their transition to secondary school.

Moving to primary school is a big step, and we aim to make this as smooth and positive as possible, by providing a Transition Program during October, November and December for preschool students.

We welcome visits to the school—please just contact the school to arrange a time to look around and meet staff.

We take enrolments for the following year at any time, and appreciate receipt of enrolment forms for Prep by September of the year prior to commencement.

To enrol your child, we need a completed Enrolment Form, a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate and Immunisation Certificate.  You are welcome to submit these digitally to our email address, or in hard copy via post or in person.
